WARRICK WYNNE
The State of the Rivers and Streams
Warrick Wynne’s third book of poetry ‘The State of the Rivers and Streams’ charts some familiar concerns from earlier collections: natural landscapes such as the rivers, creeks and bays around the Mornington Peninsula as well as exploring new ideas and images.
The process of suburbanization and the sense of the past as well as the emotional landscapes of loss and parting are also here in a collection that treads the regions where the natural and the man-made clash.
Wynne was the recipient of an Australia Council overseas residency in 2000 and many of the poems in this collection were finished in rural Ireland and some of the resonances of that visit can be seen in this collection. Love, mortality, the inevitably of death are universal poetic concerns set anew in a collection that is distinctively local in flavour and texture.
